A little perspective on things...

I started reading "Our Daily Bread" in the mornings, during my cereal a few months ago. Not sure if any of you are familiar with this pamphlet but it is sent out monthly and has a Bible study for each day. It is amazing to me how each day I read the message and it usually relates to what is going on in life at the time. I often joke with people saying that I wish God would write what he wants me to do in the clouds and that would make life a lot easier well I came to a realization this morning while reading the message for May 1st. God does better than that, he gives us a manual to follow-the Bible. Today's message says "Like a compass, the Bible always points us in the right direction". It also says "How precious is the Book divine by inspiration given! Bright as a lamp its doctrines shine, To guide our souls to heaven". I thought to myself how powerful those words are.
A few nights ago after watching, The Duggers on TV, Jason and I decided we would start having family Bible study each night at our house. We have not yet found a home church here in Mississippi so we thought this would be a great way to get/stay on track with our spiritual growth. So our Bible study will help us because we both know that it is our job to grow with God and it is also our responsibility to teach our children.

So tonight will be our first night of in home Bible study. I am starting with a simple children's Bible of Hayden's in an effort to start from the basics and keep Hayden interested. We will read a story and then refer to the Bible for the related verses. I guess this is the teacher in me coming out!!! I will probably devise a little craft for Hayden too! It is time to get back to the important stuff in life.

God Bless You All!!

Hope you've been able to find a church home since you posted this blog. It's a valuable centre for worship, fellowship and service for the Lord. (But I encourage you to keep up with your family devotions too. Great idea!)

Not sure if you realized the words "How Precious Is the Book Divine" is actually a hymn by a pastor named John Fawcett (born 260 years ago today). You can see the entire song here...

One more thought: How about including a hymn in your family devotions. Maybe not a different one each day, but you could have a hymn of the week, and teach it to the children. You may find some help on my daily blog on hymn history, Wordwise Hymns. And if you need help with the words or the tune, check out the Cyber Hymnal here...

God bless you and your family.
